A Toast to Perseverance

No frills but it toasts reasonably evenly and you can store it on end

We are happy to announce a major upgrade to the galley. Perseverance now has a shiny, new toaster!

She actually came with a period appropriate harvest gold toaster that probably made fine toast but we never got to find out. An unnamed crew member, eager to help, grabbed the vintage beauty and ran to the rail to shake out the decades worth of accumulated crumbs and before I could shout a warning, they had dumped out the crumbs along with the unattached crumb tray which was basically the bottom of the toaster.

The new toaster (on clearance at L&M Fleet Supply) is a stainless steel Black & Decker. No fancy settings on this one, just a knob to select your desired level of toasty goodness. It also features a crumb tray which is securely hinged to its bottom side.

We can move on from razzing the unnamed crew member whenever someone wants their Pop-Tart (or bagel, or bread) toasted. The ribbing wasn't really having a motivational effect anyhow. It's nicer to toast than roast.
